Offshore, in depths between 7.5 meters (25 feet) and 12
meters (40 feet), is an exceptionally dense bed of sand dollars, Dendraster
excentricus. The bed is
approximately 0.8 kilometer (0.5 mile) in length. In association with this
population are many other invertebrates. Integrity: The bed is undisturbed. Heated effluent from
the nearby power plant rises to the surface and should not affect the benthic
communities. Use: Research,
education, observation
