South Ski Island

MAP     Satellite

Vegetation on the higher portions of this small island in Mission Bay consists primarily of exotic grasses.  In the lower levels, pickleweed, Salicornia virginica, is the dominant.

Two endangered bird species are known to nest here, Belding's savannah sparrow, Passerculus sandwichensis beldingi, and the California least tern, Sterna albifrons browni.  The island harbors one of the largest breeding colonies of the tern in the State.

Integrity:  There is a FAX beacon on the island.

Use:  Restricted
