Echo Valley The research area is located in Echo Valley and has
predominantly north and south facing slopes. Chaparral is the main community and
here includes such species as chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, Arctostaphylos
glauca, Ceanothus greggii, Ceanothus leucodermis, mountain mahogany,
Cercocarpus betuloides, and scrub oak, Quercus sp. There are scattered stands of oak woodland composed of
coast live oak, Quercus agrifolia, and Engelmann oak, Quercus
engelmannii. An artificial reservoir supports a small freshwater
marsh dominated by cattails, Typha sp. Animal life is typical of the region. Integrity: Little
disturbance is evident except for occasional cattle.
The area was last burned in 1950. Use: Research, education. Ref: Miller,
