Map Satellite At the mouth of the Ten Mile River, behind the dunes, is an excellent example of a coastal river marsh. In the salt marsh portion, pickleweed, Salicornia virginica, and Distichlis spicata are the dominants. In the brackish marsh inland, Carex sp., tule, Scirpus sp., and cattail, Typha sp., are common. There is some eel grass, Zostera marina, in the water area. Numerous birds and fishes utilize the marsh. Waterfowl and shorebirds are abundant, particularly during the migratory season. Common mergansers, Mergus merganser, nest here, as do various other species. Integrity: The area is virtually undisturbed, although a highway crosses it. Use: Private December 1977
