Nelder Grove

Map     Satellite

In much of the Nelder Grove of sequoia, Sequoiadendron giganteum, the trees are distributed in relatively scattered groups. It is one of the eight groves lying to the north of Kings River and is separated from the nearest grove to the south, the McKinley Grove by a distance of some 64 kilometers (40 miles). The Mariposa Grove in Yosemite National Park lies approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles) to the north.

A part of the grove is growing on glacial outwash derived from granitic rocks.

Originally there were some 2,000 trees in the grove but some have been cut.

See Abbott Creek Grove, Agnew Grove.
